1. What is a focus group?

A focus group is a qualitative research method where a small group of people, typically six to ten (6-10) individuals, are brought together in a facilitated discussion to share their opinions, attitudes, perceptions, and ideas on a specific product, service, concept, or issue.

2. What is a mock trial?

A mock trial is a focus group where the topic of discussion relates to a court case. The mock trial is usually a shortened version of a trial and may include evidence from both sides of the case. The mock trials are conducted to poll the attitudes, opinions and views of a cross-section of individuals from the area where the case will be heard.

3. Who are Jury Insight Solutions?

We are an organization dedicated to conducting research projects as requested by our clients. We provide useful insights to the lawyers and clients involved in the cases we undertake. Our services assist in ensuring that the most clear, concise and robust evidence is presented to build the most compelling cases.

4. How can I participate in a research project?

To participate in the research project, you must be a resident for at least one year in the area where the case will be heard. Our advertisements recruiting participants will detail which area we are recruiting from. You must be between the ages of 18 to 70. You must be a U.S. Citizen and have a valid Driver’s License or State ID. There are a number of other factors that may affect whether you are eligible to participate. 5. Why is there an age limit related to the research project?

An age limit is enforced regarding the project as we aim to select persons who would be able to participate in jury duty. To participate, one must be over the age of 18 and the cap is generally set at age 70 as persons over the age of 70 may choose to opt out of participating in jury duty.

6. Why is my county or area not listed in the advertisements posted?

If we do not have cases being heard in your area, then there are no current openings for you to participate. Please check our advertisements to see if there are studies being conducted in your area. Please note if you submit your information and you live outside of the requested area, you will not be considered for the project.

7. Some of the questions seem very detailed, why does Jury Insight Solutions require so much information?

The information that we collect is used to determine your eligibility into the project. Some of the questions are to get a sense of the type of person that you are, and what information may influence you. We are interested in this type of information to get an idea of the attitudes and behaviors of persons in your area. This is important to help those involved in the cases know how to frame the evidence in a way that will be understandable.

8. Will my information be kept private?

The security of your data is of the utmost importance to Jury Insight Solutions. Your data will only be used in relation to determining your eligibility in the study and is safeguarded in a secure manner. For further information, please see our Privacy Policy.

9. How is the research project conducted?

The research project is held online through Zoom sessions. If you are selected to participate, you will be provided with a Zoom link to join the meeting on the day before the project will begin. The sessions usually last about four (4) hours and are very interesting.

10. Once I fill out the sign-up questionnaire what are the next steps?

Your information will be assessed by our research analysts who will determine your eligibility. If you are found eligible, we will contact you by phone or email to confirm your interest. Once you confirm your interest, an email with details relating to the session that you will participate in will be sent to you. Please note that you must stay for the entire session to be compensated.

11. What if I am no longer interested in participating after I indicated that I would?

Please reach out to our focus group coordinator to advise that you will be unable to participate. Alternate participants are not slated for our studies so the coordinator will need to be able to fill your slot if you are unable to make it.

12. What if I have participated in a Jury Research Project before?

We thank you for your interest however, we do NOT accept applications from persons who have participated in Research Projects before as we aim to get unbiased and untrained opinions that would be indicative of the general population.

13. What equipment do I need to participate?

As the sessions are held online, you will need a desktop or laptop computer which includes a web camera, microphone and speakers. You will also need a reliable high-speed internet connection to be able to connect to the meeting. Please also ensure Zoom is downloaded on your computer so that you will be able to join the meeting.

14. What if I do not have the equipment noted above but I have been selected?

Please advise the focus group coordinator who will determine if your equipment will be sufficient or if you will be unable to participate.

15. What should I wear?

Please dress comfortably in business casual attire. Even though the meeting will be held on Zoom, we request that you dress in a manner that would be appropriate for an office. Please do NOT wear tank tops, pajamas, t-shirts or sweatshirts.

16. When should I be present?

Please log on to the Zoom session at least fifteen (15) minutes ahead of the scheduled start time.

17. Will there be paperwork to complete?

Prior to your participation, you will be sent a confidentiality form for your signature. The form is to be returned before you participate in the project. If the form is not submitted prior to the project, you may be replaced with someone who did submit their form. Confidentiality is extremely important for us and for you in relation to the information that will be presented. Please be aware that any information relating to the cases must NOT be discussed with anyone. You will also need to have your valid ID on hand during the session.

18. How and when will I be paid?

Payments are made by Zelle or PayPal and will be made at the end of the session. For you to earn your payment, you must stay for the full session and have participated fully by providing valuable insights. You MUST have Zelle or PayPal to receive your payment as payments will only be made through these methods.

19. What else should I be aware of?

Please note that cell phone usage will not be allowed during the session. Although the session is over Zoom, you are expected to remain seated and listen to all the evidence that is presented attentively. Breaks will be given during the session; therefore, you should not be moving about during the presentations.

20. What if I do not hear back from anyone?

As many persons apply to participate in the research project, only those who have been selected to participate will be contacted. If you do not hear back, it most likely means all the spots have been filled or you are not eligible based on your responses on the questionnaire. As long as you have not participated in a research project before, you can apply to new advertisements for different projects that are posted on Facebook or Craig’s List for your area.
